What is “The Unity”?
While the Unity Women’s Desk is structured as an independent non-profit corporation, it is partially supported by the Unity Board of the Unitas Fratrum, also known as the Worldwide Moravian Church.
In many parts of the world, it is known simply as the Moravian Church and informally referred to as “the Unity” when stressing it’s international identity.
Founded in 1457 by followers of John Hus and renewed in 1727 on the estates of Nicolaus Ludwig, Count Zindorf in Germany, the vast majority of Moravians now live in Africa. There are Moravians in more than 40 countries on 5 continents with approximately 1,210, 500 members as of 2018.
