4- European Continental Province: Albania, Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Latvia, Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland
Pray for the European Women’s Conference and relationships between women in all these provinces. They speak many languages but share one strong faith in Jesus Christ. May they be an example of how to share across political and national borders in these divisive times. We hope to learn and share more about them. Pray for all refugees and God’s guidance for Moravian congregations as refugees move into their countries. Help them respond with love.
Pray for Moravians in Switzerland, and for the work they carry out through Mission 21. Pray for Pastor Elsbeth Kaiser-Stuber in Zurich and for our Sisters in Sweden and the Netherlands.
Pray for Danish Moravians and their commitment to service in many parts of the world. Give thanks for inspiring women like Ingrid Markusson, retired after serving 20 years in Tanzania.
Pray for the four German Sisters elected as Unity Board contacts. Pray for the Sisters in the Nordrhein-Westfalen congregation, which is scattered over a large area so they cannot meet often and for women’s groups throughout Germany serving their congregations. Guide them as they support women in refugee camps in Malawi and in Moravian congregations there.
Pray for Latvia and the renewal of the Moravian Church there. June 7, 2019 was their second annual “Moravian Church Day. “They celebrated historical contributions of Moravians. Lift up the Christian David School. Pray especially for three young sisters removed from their parents’ home by Social Services and placed in the loving care of this Moravian school.
Pray for Moravians in Estonia and for the Youth Conference “Crossroads” there in July 2019.
Give thanks for the 6 Moravian congregations in Albania. In May, Swedish and Albanian Moravians hosted a Youth Conference for 20 Albanian youth, and congregational leaders attended a seminar led by Danish pastor Bøytler. Ireland): Sisters Jane Dixon, Lorraine Shorten, Sarah Groves, Patsy Holdsworth,Heather Carter (Anglican priest serving a united congregation). “We are thankful for the work of our retired ordained sisters:”Sisters Gloria David, Kathryn Woolford, Sheila Connor, Jan Mullin,Hilary Smith. There are two female bishops Srs Sarah Groves and Beth Torkington), one female student pastor (Sr Claire Maxwell) and the2theological students now are female, Sr Christine Emanuel and Sr Susan Foreman (real sisters!). Our Provincial Youth/ Children’s Worker is Sr Joy Raynor. Seven women are Lay Preachers and more lead worship. Sr Zoe Taylor is on the Provincial Board and Roberta is PEC Chair and on the British Mission Board.
Remember the contribution of Sisters in lay ministry who are not mentioned by name – in all provinces. A British congregation reminds us of ministries carried out by Sisters worldwide: “Sisters devote time as faithful members of Church committees and Chapel servants. Weekly, they make young people feel welcome and valued, donate flowers, clean, welcome visitors, visit the sick and needy. They help others through prayer groups, well-being activities and social events. We pray with appreciation for all Sisters do in Church life.”
Pray for the British Province as they, like other provinces in the Moravian Unity, seek “new and active ways to do ministry, sustaining and furthering the work of the Church, launch pioneer ministries and praying to discern the way forward. We are venturing to re-establish work in the Republic of Ireland. Services will be held the 2nd Sunday of every other month.”
Pray for “growing Moravian communities in India and Nepal, excited to see the Good News spread from remote rural villages to major cities.”“Moravian Women in Nepal are busy! Sister Pradhan leads representatives from 3 Moravian Churches weekly. There are five different women’s prayer groups, a prayer chain for special needs, a 24 hour Fasting Prayer, led by Sisters Seema Rai and Sita Maharjan. The women’s department has 2 new projects: Hannah Day Care Center and a ministry for Old Age Care. Join their prayer: “We thank God for letting us be His hands and feet [and]we thank all involved through prayers, presence or finances. May God more mightily use Moravian women and expand His kingdom in Nepal.”
